Crutchley’s employer, Harris Corporations,

was highly involved with not only the NASA research and launch facilities at Cape Canaveral, but also with other Naval contractors and subcontractors. Crutchley appeared to have illegal possession of a great deal of highly classified information on naval weaponry and communications. Some of this was on diskettes that he had protected by a code, which authorities were able to break.

 

Other federal agencies considered opening an espionage case against him.
